The Musical Documentary Film Festival "Dock of the Bay" faces its eleventh edition with renewed energy.

December 11 2017

This change of decade makes the festival to maintain its identity, scheduling good musical documentary films and offering a whole series of parallel activities focused on cinema and music.

Among the first advances, and thanks to the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Elías Querejeta Film School, the University of the Basque Country and Development of San Sebastian, the festival presents the seminar entitled 'Music as constructor of images'. This will be a space dedicated to reflection on documentary film, with the participation of theoreticians, critics and filmmakers who will discuss the ability of music to produce narrations. Thus, approaches to concrete texts that put music and sound work at the center of discourse will be proposed. Among the speakers are Desiré de Fez, a film critic; Jero Rodríguez, director of the program Cachitos de Hierro y Cromo of TVE; Álvaro Granda Ferrer, member of Reykjavik 606; Fernando Golvano, art theorist, and Shaila García Catalán, film theorist. The seminar will be directed by Aarón Rodriguez Serrano. On the other hand, the image of the 2018 festival is the work of the designer Jorge Elósegui, of Estudio Primo. In the words of the artist, the poster of this year marks a difference with respect to previous years, in which the theme was the "relationship between image and sound". On this occasion, the poster "reflects the rhythm and movement" generated by the composition of the elements. A movement that "tries to brighten the eye and forces us to move our heads to read the information".
